We are so focused on what the future looks like that we forget to enjoy and cherish our present. Every day is a gift which is why we call it the present.
We are constantly rushing to fulfil our deadlines, finish our work for the day, accomplish our targets, and tick all the boxes on the to-do list that we stop enjoying the work and only do it to get done with it.
A happy balance is all that we need
When you find a job that you enjoy, you will never have to work a day in your life!
It’s quite obvious that we spend more time at work than our homes. I never really understood why our workplace is called our second home, when realistically it’s our first.
With today’s urban, modern liberal work style, research shows that the individual’s productivity, morale and happiness increase ten-fold if certain portions of the day are dedicated to just relaxing, listening to music, taking good and effective breaks, spending time and chilling with fellow teammates/colleagues, engaging in recreational activities like playing TT, video games, cards, carom etc.
Here's what WHO recommends
A recent World Health Organization led study estimates that mental and physical stress, depression and anxiety disorders cost the global economy $1 trillion each year in lost productivity. If every employee spends their own version of ‘ME’ time on a regular basis, not only will productivity increase but it will lead to an increase in revenues and in turn the employee turnover cost will be on the low.
Small add-ons leave a big impact
Let’s make a change in our everyday monotonous routine and mix it up, step out of our comfort zone, burst the hypothetical bubble and actively have a great day at work. Along with the above tips, you can do simple things like contribute towards making your workstations/desks look more pleasant and pleasurable, concentrate on the task at hand and do not let yourself be distracted by worrying about all the other things to be done or losing energy over the undesirable situation you find yourself in.
Conclusion
Be ruthless and take care of a task before it gets on a possible procrastination list. Be motivated to face the day, throw yourselves into new projects, push and challenge yourselves and ultimately this hunger will drive you to come to work every single day rather than push yourself to do the same.
YOU are responsible for your life; it is up to you to make the most of it.
Follow your heart but take your brain with you.
